One in four Czech adults is obese, experts begin overhaul of nutrition guidelines
More than a quarter of Czech adults are obese, with numbers expected to rise, warns the National Institute of Public Health (SZÚ). Poor diets contribute to around a quarter of preventable deaths. For the first time in nearly 20 years, SZÚ is updating national dietary recommendations to reflect modern research. A draft is due by year’s end, with final guidelines expected by 2027. Experts aim to emphasize whole foods and warn more strongly about risks linked to alcohol and processed food. The update is part of the Czech National Cardiovascular Plan for 2025–2035.
