Oldest Czech citizen dies at 108 in České Budějovice
Blažena Strachotová, the oldest resident of Czechia, has died at the age of 108 in České Budějovice. Born in 1917 in Slavičín, then part of Austria-Hungary, she spent her life working in manual professions, including as a butcher and shop assistant. Known as an optimistic and independent woman, she passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on September 28, according to the city’s mayor Dagmar Škodová Parmová. As of June, Czechia had 1,078 citizens over the age of 100, with women making up the vast majority. The highest number of centenarians live in Prague.
