Old Town Square packed for annual tree-lighting ceremony

Thousands of people turned up for the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Old Town Square on Saturday. The 22-metre-tall spruce was illuminated by eight kilometers of light cables and adorned with 350 Christmas balls in red, yellow and gold, the colours of Prague. The music theme was from the popular Czech film Cinderella which marked its 50th anniversary this year. The Christmas market on the square, which offers mulled wine, grilled sausages, hot chestnuts and hand-made Christmas decorations, will remain open until January 6.
