Number of births in Czechia lowest since records began

The number of births in Czechia last year – around 77,600 – was the lowest registered on the territory of the country since records began in 1785. It was the fourth year in a row that the birth rate fell, according to data released by the Czech Statistics Office on Tuesday.

The population rose by roughly 6,300 in 2025, reaching around 10.91 million, on the back of foreign migration.

While births and weddings were down, deaths and divorces rose slightly.
