Czechs commemorate All Souls’ Day as police increase cemetery patrols

People across Czechia are marking All Souls’ Day on Monday, November 2, remembering deceased relatives and loved ones. Known locally as Dušičky, the tradition involves visiting cemeteries, placing flowers and wreaths on graves and lighting candles. Churches are holding special services in remembrance of the dead. Cemeteries have extended their opening hours, while some towns have increased public transport services to accommodate visitors. Hundreds of police officers are patrolling cemeteries and nearby roads nationwide to prevent theft and manage traffic. The Christian observance dates back more than a thousand years and remains a widely observed tradition in Czechia.
