HIV cases in Czechia rise in first nine months of 2026
Czech health authorities registered 230 HIV cases in the first nine months of this year, 19 more than in the same period in 2025, according to the National Institute of Public Health. Of those, 182 were newly diagnosed, while the others had previously tested positive abroad. More than half of those registered were foreign nationals with long-term residence in Czechia. Where the route of infection was established, sexual transmission predominated, with sex between men accounting for over 55 percent and heterosexual transmission for 28 percent. Last year, Czechia recorded a record 293 HIV cases. Modern treatment can prevent further transmission.
