Ahold to acquire Tesco stores in Czechia and Slovakia for €1.7 billion
Dutch retail group Ahold Delhaize, which operates Albert supermarkets in Czechia, is acquiring Tesco’s operations in Czechia and Slovakia for approximately 1.7 billion euros, including lease liabilities. The deal, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to be completed in late 2027. It would mark the end of Tesco’s 30-year presence in the Czech market, which began in 1996 with the acquisition of K-Mart department stores. Tesco currently operates 184 stores in Czechia, alongside 113 Žabka convenience stores. Albert has nearly 350 supermarkets and hypermarkets across the country and is currently Czechia’s third-largest grocery retailer by revenue.
