Bree Nichols: American soprano with a passion for Czech opera
Bree Nichols is an American soprano and voice teacher based in Prague. A Fulbright alumna who came to the Czech Republic through the Fulbright programme, she is known for her sensitive interpretations of Czech vocal music and for performing more than a dozen operatic roles across a diverse repertoire.
She holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas. Her doctoral dissertation culminated in the creation of an anthology of Czech opera arias, complete with research, translations, and phonetic transcriptions. This work helped fuel her ongoing performance and study of Czech opera and art song in the United States and abroad.
In recent seasons, Bree has made her role debuts as Mimì in La bohème and in the title roles of Jenůfa and Káťa Kabanová in the Czech Republic, earning critical acclaim. Her portrayal of Káťa Kabanová earned her nominations for both the 2024 Jantar Awards and the Opava Thálie Award. She also performed the role at the Leoš Janáček International Music Festival.
