Former MP gets extra year in prison for fleeing to Paraguay

Former Czech MP Petr Wolf (SOCDEM) has received an additional one-year prison sentence for fleeing to Paraguay to avoid serving a six-year term for subsidy fraud. An Ostrava court handed down the sentence on Monday after the 66-year-old admitted guilt and expressed regret. The verdict is final. Petr Wolf was convicted in 2012 of defrauding the Environment Ministry while obtaining around CZK 11 million in subsidies for two projects. He fled the Czech Republic and was wanted from 2013. Petr Wolf was arrested in Paraguay in September 2025 and extradited to Czechia the following month.
