Government to debate capping profit margins on fuel amid rising prices

The Czech government will discuss rising fuel prices again on Monday, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said in an Instagram video. He said refineries appear to be making excessive profits and has not ruled out renewed price-margin caps.

According to the prime minister, the government will not propose cutting excise duties on petrol or diesel.

Fuel prices have risen over the past two weeks. A litre of the most popular Natural 95 petrol now costs an average 42.34 crowns, while diesel is selling for 45.89 crowns, according to CCS data.

Compared with a year ago, petrol is about eight crowns more expensive per litre and diesel around 13 crowns more expensive.
