Composer and musicologist Zdeněk Šesták dies at 100

The Czech composer and musicologist Zdeněk Šesták died in Prague on Friday at the age of 100, the Czech News Agency reported. He was a leading figure in the Czech classical music world and played a key role in discovering, making accessible and popularising the legacy of the distinctive Cítoliby school of composition.

Šesták, who celebrated his 100th birthday last December, was also the composer of several symphonies, violin concertos and string quartets. His oeuvre also features songs and choral works, including compositions based on Latin liturgical texts and biblical texts.
