Czech government to scrap 20-year-old EU information strategy

The Czech government will discuss on Monday scrapping its Concept for Informing the Public about European Affairs, in place for more than 20 years since Czechia joined the EU, with one major revision.

It is to be replaced by new rules from January 1, 2027. “After more than twenty years of membership, the Czech Republic is a firmly established part of the EU. The state therefore no longer needs to primarily explain the basic principles of membership, but rather to communicate clearly about specific European decisions and initiatives, and above all about Czechia’s priorities and the positions we promote within the EU and why,” the Government Office said.

Details of the new strategy remain unclear, apart from the planned abolition of the Eurocentres.
