Candidate registration closes for October local and Senate elections

The deadline for submitting candidate lists for October's municipal and Senate elections expired on Tuesday afternoon.

Political parties, movements, coalitions and independent candidates seeking seats in local councils or the Senate had until 4 p.m. to file their nominations with the relevant municipal authorities.

Electoral authorities will now verify that candidate lists meet all legal requirements and, if necessary, ask candidates to correct any deficiencies. Final registration decisions are due by August 21 for Senate candidates and August 22 for municipal candidates.

The nationwide municipal elections will be held on October 9–10, alongside the first round of Senate elections in 27 constituencies.
