Czechs mark Roma Holocaust Memorial Day

The Czech Republic is marking Roma Holocaust Memorial Day on August 2 with commemorative events at the Memorial to the Holocaust of the Roma and Sinti in Bohemia.

The date commemorates the night of August 2–3, 1944, when Nazi forces murdered more than 3,000 Roma and Sinti during the liquidation of the so-called "Gypsy family camp" at Auschwitz II-Birkenau.

The memorial in Lety u Písku is hosting a guided tour, followed by a commemorative ceremony honouring the victims.
