Police drop hate speech accusations against MP Turek

The Czech police have dropped a case involving MP Filip Turek, who was linked to online hate speech, the news site iRozhlas.cz reported on Tuesday. The chief prosecutor said that the alleged hate speech, which appeared on social media, was covered by the statute of limitations.

An investigation into whether the media outlet that reported on the matter, Deník N, committed defamation against the Motorists party MP has also been shelved.

After last year’s elections, Deník N reported that dozens of hateful, racist and sexist comments had been posted on Mr. Turek’s social media profiles.

President Petr Pavel refused to name the MP a minister and he was subsequently appointed government commissioner for climate policy.
