Artist Milan Knížák dies at 86

Czech artist, musician and former National Gallery director Milan Knížák has died at the age of 86. A leading figure of the Czech avant-garde, he worked across visual art, music, performance, design and literature, and was closely associated with the international Fluxus movement. After the fall of communism, he served as rector of Prague's Academy of Fine Arts before leading the National Gallery from 1999 to 2011. His tenure brought financial stabilisation and expansion but was also marked by controversy and disputes within the art world. Knížák's works are held in major collections, including New York's Museum of Modern Art, Tate and the Centre Pompidou.
