National security adviser Hynek Kmoníček to step down

Diplomat Hynek Kmoníček will step down as the government's national security adviser on August 9.

The cabinet discussed a resolution accepting his resignation on Monday, the Government Office said without providing further details.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) said in May that Kmoníček was expected to become the Czech Republic's ambassador to the United Nations. Czech Television later reported, citing Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, that the appointment has not yet received the required diplomatic approval, known as an agrément.
