Fire destroys 75,000 pairs of shoes worth more than CZK 150 million at Vasky warehouse

Around 75,000 pairs of shoes, clothing items and accessories from the Vasky and Botas brands were stored in the warehouse of Zlín-based footwear company Vasky in the former Baťa industrial complex in the centre of Zlín, where a fire broke out this morning. The goods had a retail value estimated at CZK 150–180 million.

The warehouse was the company’s only central storage facility. "The only shoes we have left are those in our shops," company owner and founder Václav Staněk told the Czech News Agency today. He said the company is insured. Production takes place at a different location. Part of the building collapsed after midday. "Our stores may have shoes worth around CZK 30 million. These are the only shoes we have at the moment. It is a major blow," Staněk said.
