Heat records broken across Czech Republic as extreme temperatures mount
More than half of the Czech Republic's long-term weather monitoring stations recorded new temperature records for June 25 on Thursday.
Afternoon temperatures in many parts of the country hovered around the threshold of a "super tropical day" - defined as temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius.
The highest temperature was recorded in Doksany, in the Litoměřice region, which registered 37.5 degrees Celsius, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ).
The current heatwave is expected to peak over the weekend, with temperatures likely to approach 40 degrees Celsius.
