Canoeist Fuksa wins second European title in Portugal

Czech canoeist Martin Fuksa claimed his second gold medal at the European Championships in Portugal by winning the 500-meter event, just one day after defending his 1,000-meter title. The Olympic champion accelerated over the final 200 meters to finish comfortably ahead of Russia's Alexey Korovashkov, securing his 15th European title overall. Fuksa repeated the individual 500m–1,000m double he first achieved in 2013. Later on Sunday, he was due to compete with his brother Petr in the C2 500-meter final. Fellow Czech canoeist Denisa Řáhová finished fourth in the women's 500-meter race, her best result at a European Championships.
