Former drug policy coordinator criticises planned transfer of anti-drug agenda to Health Ministry

Former national drug policy coordinator Jindřich Vobořil has criticised the government’s planned transfer of the country’s anti-drug agenda from the Government Office to the Health Ministry, calling it a big mistake.

According to Vobořil, the Health Ministry lacks the authority to coordinate policies involving customs, gambling, illegal trafficking and law enforcement measures. He also warned of potential complications in the distribution of subsidies to social services.

The government approved the transfer on Monday, with the move set to take effect in July.
