Babiš endorses ally Orban in Hungarian elections

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has expressed support for his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban ahead of general elections in his country on Sunday. Mr. Babiš said on social media that Mr. Orban had always fought for a stronger Europe and that in turbulent times choosing stability mattered more than ever.

Mr. Orban, a long-time ally of the Czech leader, has been in power for 16 years but his Fidesz party has been trailing in the polls.

Mr. Babiš’s predecessor, Petr Fiala, said he believed Mr. Orban would lose and that this would signal the beginning of the end of populism in the region.
