Prague Castle opens exhibition combining St Vitus Cathedral treasure and contemporary art

An exhibition titled Fragments of Memory: The Treasury of St. Vitus Cathedral in the Mirror of Contemporary Art opened on Thursday at the Riding Hall of Prague Castle. The show presents the St Vitus Cathedral treasure alongside works of contemporary art and follows a presentation of the collection in Dresden two years ago.

Chief curator Jiří Fajt has combined about 150 historic artefacts collected over more than a thousand years with works by nine modern artists. Highlights include the helmet of Saint Wenceslas and rare documents from the time of Charles IV.

The central exhibit is the golden Coronation Cross of the Kingdom of Bohemia, which contains relics linked to the crucifixion of Christ. The exhibition runs until July 26.
