Choirmaster named film of the year by Czech critics

Drama Choirmaster has been named film of the year by the Czech Film Critics’ Association. Sixteen-year-old Kateřina Falbrová won an acting award for her lead performance. The jury also honoured Summer school, 2001 for best screenplay, while director Tereza Nvotová and Slovak actor Milan Ondrík were recognised for the drama Father. Choirmaster, inspired by a real abuse case, follows a teenage girl in a prestigious girls’ choir and explores manipulation and sexual exploitation. Critics praised Falbrová’s “disarming” performance. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Prague’s Archa+ venue.
