Olympic weightlifting champion Ota Zaremba dies
Ota Zaremba, Olympic weightlifting champion from the 1980 Moscow Games, has died at the age of 68, the Czech Weightlifting Federation announced on Thursday.
Zaremba won gold in the 100-kilogram category in Moscow, a victory that made him one of the most popular athletes in then Czechoslovakia. During his career, he also set a world record.
In later years, Zaremba openly admitted to using doping throughout his competitive career, saying it was known to sports officials and coaches at the time. He said the use of banned substances had a lasting and serious impact on his health.
