Czech tennis player Plíšková reaches second round of Australian Open on return

Czech tennis player Karolína Plíšková has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open on her return from injury. The former world number one, who spent a year and a half away from the WTA Tour due to health problems, defeated American Sloane Stephens 7–6, 6–2 in the opening round of the season’s first Grand Slam.

Tereza Valentová, Kateřina Siniaková and Linda Fruhvirtová also moved on to the next round, while Sára Bejlek was eliminated.
