Mountain rescue service warns against ridge hikes in Krkonoše
The Mountain Rescue Service is advising against ridge hikes in the Krkonoše (Giant) Mountains due to strong winds, drifting snow and poor visibility. Gusts on the ridges are exceeding 50 kilometres per hour, with fog reducing visibility to near zero in places. Conditions have also forced the upper section of the cable car to Sněžka to remain out of service, while the lower section is operating. Temperatures on the peaks have dropped well below minus ten degrees Celsius, with wind chill making it feel far colder. Avalanche danger remains at the lowest level, but snowdrifts are complicating movement in exposed areas.
