EU to provide €90 billion loan to Ukraine, Czech Republic opts out of guarantees

The European Union will provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan, leaders agreed after hours of talks at a summit in Brussels. The deal was announced on social media platform X by European Council President António Costa. The Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia will not join the guarantees linked to the loan, which will be backed by the remaining 24 EU member states. Work will also continue on the use of a so-called reparations loan for Ukraine secured by frozen Russian assets, according to the summit conclusions.
