Poll: Over half of Czechs oppose Turek as environment minister
More than half of Czechs do not want Filip Turek, the honorary president of Motorists, as environment minister, according to a flash poll by NMS Research for Czech Radio. The late-November survey shows resistance to Turek not only among the public, but also among some voters of the incoming governing bloc.
Turek has also been under fire for a series of racist and homophobic posts on social media. He has apologised for some of them, while denying authorship of others.
According to the poll, 52 percent of respondents oppose Turek leading the Environment Ministry, while 30 percent support him. Analyst Tereza Friedrichová of NMS Research says the results suggest that swapping the foreign affairs and environment portfolios with Petr Macinka has not worked in Motorists’ favour.
