EU report: Czechia faces significant migration situation due to refugees from Ukraine
The European Commission has classified Czechia among EU countries experiencing a “significant migration situation” because of the large number of refugees from Ukraine. In its first annual report on migration and asylum, the Commission said Czechia may therefore request an exemption from the EU solidarity mechanism. The report also notes that the number of illegal border crossings into the EU has fallen by 35 percent over the past year. Greece, Cyprus, Spain, and Italy remain under strong migratory pressure and will be eligible for support from the new EU Solidarity Fund once the migration and asylum pact takes effect in mid-2026.
