Historic train ride recalls return of Czechoslovak legionnaires

A train drawn by a historic steam locomotive will travel between Prague and České Budějovice today and again on Saturday to mark the 105th anniversary of the Czechoslovak legionnaires’ return home. The event, titled Finally Home, is organized by the Czechoslovak Legionnaire Community in cooperation with the Museum of Old Machines and Technologies. The train, led by locomotive No. 555.0153—known as the German—will include historic carriages and a French express coach hosting an exhibition about the legionnaires’ return. Participants dressed in period uniforms will sell symbolic red poppies to support the Military Solidarity Fund. The commemorative journey will culminate with a march to the legionnaire monument in Prague on Saturday.
