Charles University to elect new rector on Friday
Charles University will elect a new rector on Friday. Five people are running for the position, including the current rector, Milena Králíčková. Other candidates are Jiří Zima, an analytical chemist and longtime dean of the Faculty of Science at Charles University; Ladislav Krištoufek, the current vice-rector for research and creative activities; František Zahálka, a kinanthropologist; and Martin Mihaljevič, a geochemist.
The term of the newly elected rector is set to begin in February 2026 and will last four years. After the election, the rector must still be formally appointed by President Petr Pavel.
