Supreme Court overturns ruling on denied compensation for former defense minister

The Czech Supreme Court has overturned previous verdicts that denied former defense minister Vlasta Parkanová higher compensation for her years-long criminal prosecution in the CASA military aircraft case. According to the court, lower courts failed to take key circumstances into account and must reassess the case.

Parkanová, a former politician with the Christian Democrats (KDU-ČSL) and later TOP 09, was prosecuted from 2012 until her final acquittal in October 2021. The Ministry of Justice issued a formal apology and paid her 1.6 million crowns. However, Parkanová is seeking around 8.5 million crowns in damages for non-material harm.
