Czechs go to the polls to elect a new government

Czechs go to the polls on Friday and Saturday to elect a new government. Twenty-six parties and groupings are contesting seats in the 200-strong Chamber of Deputies, four more than in the previous elections in 2021. Seven of them have a realistic chance of entering the lower house of Parliament. There are 4,463 candidates running in the elections, roughly 22 for each seat, and around 8 million eligible voters.

Polling stations are open from 2pm till 10 pm on Friday and from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. The vote count will begin as soon as polling stations close and early results are expected at around 6pm on Saturday.

Over 27,000 Czechs have registered to vote abroad in these election, close to half of them by mail. In the Americas, voting takes place on Thursday and Friday due to the time difference.
