New 10,000-crown gold coin marks reign of Duke Wenceslas

The Czech National Bank has issued a special 10,000-crown gold coin to commemorate 1,100 years since the start of Duke Wenceslas’s rule. Only 7,200 pieces were minted and unveiled at a ceremony in Prague’s Archbishop’s Palace. Designed by sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, the coin weighs one troy ounce and features St. Vitus’s rotunda with the Přemyslid coat of arms on one side and depictions of St. Wenceslas on the other. Although its face value is 10,000 crowns, the price on the market is around 100,000. Governor Aleš Michl said the issue also highlights CNB’s growing gold reserves.
