September road deaths highest in seven years, 59 killed

September was the deadliest month on Czech roads in seven years. According to preliminary police data, 59 people died in accidents, 19 more than last year.

Traffic police spokesman Jan Straka said the last time September was this tragic was in 2018, when 61 people lost their lives. The worst was in 2015, with 75 deaths.

Since the start of this year, road accidents have claimed 328 lives, two fewer than in the same period of 2024. Final figures will be released in early October.
