Czech crown jewels to go on public display in mid-September

The Czech crown jewels will be put on display for the public at Prague Castle’s Vladislav Hall from September 15 until 29, in connection with the upcoming general elections, the Czech News Agency reported citing the Office of the President. The exhibition will be free of charge. Schools will have priority viewing on the first two days, with public access beginning on September 18.

President Petr Pavel introduced the tradition of displaying the crown jewels annually. Before that their viewing was a rare treat for which people would queue up for hours.

Since the foundation of the Czech Republic, the crown jewels have been displayed eight times—twice under Václav Havel and Václav Klaus, and four times under Miloš Zeman. The longest exhibition to date took place in May 2016, lasting 15 days.
