Czech system of financial support for university students is weak

Direct financial support for university students in Czechia is low compared to European Union countries and OECD nations. It is broad, not well-targeted, and does little to support students from poorer families. This contributes to the fact that access to higher education in Czechia is strongly influenced by parents’ education and their willingness to provide financial support.

These findings come from a study by experts from the Institute for Democracy and Economic Analysis (IDEA) at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
