Overnight storms bring heavy rain to Czechia

Heavy overnight storms brought intense rainfall across parts of Czechia. In Turnov, 33 liters of water per square meter fell in just 20 minutes.

The heaviest totals were recorded at Borová Lada in the Prachatice region in southern Bohemia, where 57 liters fell overnight, and in nearby Vimperk with 49 liters. According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, the rain had only a minor impact on rivers and streams, though it did cause problems in built-up areas.

Since Friday morning, a narrow band stretching from Šumava through central Bohemia to the Liberec region has seen between 40 and 60 liters of rain per square meter, with some stations measuring even more. Borová Lada recorded 78 liters, while Orlík nad Vltavou saw as much as 91 liters.
