Aging index in Czechia keeps rising

The so-called aging index, which reflects the number of seniors per hundred children, is increasing in Czechia. Last year, there were 133 people over 65 for every hundred boys and girls under 15 – about four more than the previous year and ten more compared to 2018. After the Covid epidemic, life expectancy is once again rising. However, the expected lifespan of 65-year-old men and women varies across regions, with a 2.5-year gap between Prague and the Ústí nad Labem region. This comes from data by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). Municipalities can use the aging index when planning services for their residents.
