Brno court orders Jiřikovský remanded in custody

The Brno Municipal Court on Sunday ordered Tomáš Jiřikovský into custody, granting a prosecutor’s request. Prosecutors argued for detention on all three grounds permitted under the criminal code—risk of flight, obstruction of the investigation, and the likelihood of reoffending. Jiřikovský was detained by police on Thursday during a raid on his home in Břeclav and has been charged with two counts of money laundering. The alleged crimes date to 2015 and this year; police say he disguised the origin of bitcoins derived from criminal activity. The most recent case also involves a billion crown bitcoin donation to the Ministry of Justice.
