Hundreds join St. Lawrence pilgrimage to Sněžka

Hundreds of pilgrims from both sides of the Czech-Polish border took part today in the St. Lawrence pilgrimage to Sněžka, the highest Czech mountain. A mass was held at noon at the chapel of St. Lawrence on the summit, attended by about a thousand people, according to the Hradec Králové Diocese. The event, marking the 1,767th anniversary of St. Lawrence’s death, drew local mayors, mountain rescue teams, national park representatives, clergy, and politicians. The tradition is held annually on the saint’s feast day; St. Lawrence is the patron of the Krkonoše Mountains as well as cooks, brewers, and innkeepers.
