Humanitarian organisations call on government to take action on Gaza

The Czech Red Cross, People in Need and Doctors Without Borders have called on the government of Petr Fiala (Spolu) to condemn violations of international law in Gaza, to use diplomatic tools to release hostages and achieve a permanent ceasefire, or to support the end of the blockade of the Palestinian territory. The organisations informed ČTK about the call on Tuesday.

According to international organisations, a significant part of the population in the Gaza Strip is facing malnutrition and starvation. According to the UN, more than 1,300 people have been killed there since the end of May while trying to obtain food aid. Israel has been repeatedly criticised by international organisations, the UN and some Western governments for its policy of restricting the distribution of humanitarian aid; criticism has also been voiced within Israel.
