Czech firefighters' work in Texas complicated by high temperatures and difficult terrain

The work of Czech firefighters who helped search for victims of recent flash floods in Texas was complicated by high temperatures and difficult terrain, as described to journalists by the commander of the detachment, Jaromír Piesch, after their arrival in Pardubice. A military plane from the US landed at the airport in Pardubice with the team of firefighters, consisting of sixteen people and four dogs. The team found several victims of the floods over eight days; five have been confirmed so far.

The firefighters also had to be careful of spiders and snakes that are found in the area. Therefore, they had a procedure in place that was supposed to protect both people and dogs. According to Piesch, the four-legged rescuers did a very good job and now need to rest, as the deployment was long for them.
