Whooping cough, scabies and more: diseases once eradicated return

Diseases once considered nearly eliminated, like whooping cough and scabies, are making a comeback in Czechia, Seznam.cz reports. Last year alone, over 37,000 cases of whooping cough were recorded, almost 400 times more than in 2022. Other illnesses such as hepatitis A, C and E, measles, and even exotic diseases like malaria and dengue fever are also on the rise, partly due to lower vaccination rates and increased international travel. Experts warn against complacency and stress the importance of vaccinations. Infections are also spreading more easily due to weakened immunity after the COVID-19 pandemic.
