Man on trial for assaulting two Ukrainian women at fair receives suspended sentence

A court in Plzeň on Friday imposed a suspended sentence on 50-year-old Zdeněk Holzknecht, accused of assaulting two women from Ukraine at a fair in Plasy in 2023. The convicted owner of fairground attractions faced charges of bodily harm, disorderly conduct, and violence against a group of residents and an individual, and faced up to five years in prison. The court found him guilty only of disorderly conduct.

The court concluded that it was not possible to convict the man beyond reasonable doubt of causing injury to one of the women, and it was not proven that he had committed violence against foreign women because of their Ukrainian nationality.
