Staroměstská metro station closed after escalator fire

Prague’s Staroměstská metro station remains closed after a late-night fire broke out on one of its escalators. Trains on line A are bypassing the station, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze. According to Prague transport company (DPP) spokesperson Aneta Řehková, the extent of the damage is still unclear and no timeline for reopening has been set. Around 80 people were evacuated shortly before midnight Saturday; no injuries were reported. Firefighters quickly extinguished the minor fire, which affected a DPP employee who inhaled smoke. Passengers are advised to use nearby stations Malostranská and Můstek.
