Škoda Group to deliver up to 30 new trams to Mainz, Germany within five years

The Škoda Group will deliver up to 30 new trams to Mainz, Germany, between 2028 and 2030, the company's spokesman Jan Švehla informed ČTK on Wednesday. The order is for 22 trams, although the spokesman did not want to state the financial amount of the order. A report published on the website of the Mainz public transport provider MVG states that, at more than 100 million euros (almost 2.5 billion crowns), the tram order is the largest single investment in the history of MVG.

The German market is one of the most important in Europe for Škoda. "With this contract, Škoda becomes a key supplier for nine transport companies that provide tram services in eleven German cities," said Mr. Švehla. The new trams for Mainz will be built on the ForCity Smart platform. They will have a bidirectional design with swivel bogies, a length of 43.5 metres and a gauge of 1,000 millimetres. "Interesting features include panoramic windows around the perimeter of the tram, which will offer passengers a better view."
