Czech police prosecuted over 3,300 people for drug offences in 2024, fewer than previous year
Last year, Czech police charged 3,309 people with drug-related crimes, a slight decrease of 106 compared to 2022, according to the annual report of the National Drug Enforcement Centre (NPC). Most of those prosecuted were Czech nationals; 319 were foreigners. Authorities also seized drugs worth over CZK 400 million and secured CZK 140 million during proceedings. The highest number of cases was recorded in Central Bohemia (445), overtaking Prague (425). The fewest cases—just 52—were in the Zlín Region. Most charges involved illegal production and handling of narcotics, followed by possession. New legislation this year introduces two categories of psychoactive substances: psychomodulatory (lower risk, available under restrictions) and newly emerging substances to be assessed for future classification.
