Newly reopened Prague planetarium attracts several thousand visitors

The Prague planetarium, which reopened on Saturday after more than two years of reconstruction, drew several thousand visitors. Its main attraction is a state-of-the-art digital dome, said to be the largest of its kind in the world.

To mark the reopening, the planetarium is offering special 20-minute shows this weekend at a discounted admission of CZK 100. The program features a night-sky simulation and a demonstration of the new technology.

The renovation, which began in April 2023, cost around CZK 300 million. About two-thirds went toward the dome, while the rest funded new wiring, ventilation, and energy systems that now recycle waste heat for winter heating. The stage and seating were also upgraded, and exhibition space was expanded.

Later this year, new underground areas will open, including a gift shop and a play zone with simulators of real and sci-fi space vehicles.
